MELBOURNE Jaleel Johnson Vikings Jersey , Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Australia's vice-captain David Warner has taken out the highest individual honor in Australian cricket, winning the Allan Border Medal on Wednesday night.

In a glittering ceremony at Melbourne's Crown Casino, Warner polled 240 votes to win the most-coveted prize of the night ahead of captain Steve Smith (219 votes) and bowler Mitchell Starc (183).

Warner, 29, was also named Test player of the year, while Glenn Maxwell won one-day player of the year.

The result came as a surprise to many, including Warner, as Smith was considered the hot favorite having scored more runs than Warner in the voting period.

"I honestly thought Smithy had a terrific year and I thought he would have taken this out," Warner said on Wednesday.

The honors for Warner serve as a reminder of how far the opener has come since his Test debut in 2011, when the Twenty20 and one-day specialist was heavily criticised for not having the patience to be effective in the longer form of the game.

In 2013, the pugnacious left-hander came under heavy fire from many commentators, and the chief executive of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland, who labelled his actions "despicable" after a physical altercation with English batsman Joe Root.

Votes for the Allan Border Medal are cast after each Test and one-day game and are sourced from two groups: players, and media and umpires. Warner received 120 votes from each group highlighting the consistency in his 1990-run year.

The highlight of Warner's year came at the start of the Australian summer when he registered consecutive scores of 163, 116 and 253 against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Meg Lanning's reign as the undisputed queen of Australian women's cricket came to an end with all-rounder Ellyse Perry winning her first Belinda Clark Medal, for best female cricketer.

Perry's year was capped off in the women's Ashes series where she was awarded Player of the Series after taking the most wickets and making the most runs as Australia triumphed.

The need for greater understanding of women’s sports health issues has come about due in part to the increase in participation in various sports and exercise by women. Neither gender is exempt from potential for injury when working out or playing in sports but women in particular must pay attention to some issues which we’ll discuss here.

By preparing for the activities you are participating in, you can prevent many sports-related injuries. You can start by wearing the right clothes and gear, which includes your footwear and any protective gear. To loosen your muscles and prevent injury, stretch before any workout or activity. For your cool down, it’s a good idea to do some stretching after your activity. Wearing clothes that are loose is very important so you can move around freely. If you’ve recently had any injuries, you may need to take extra precautions in this area, such as wrapping up a knee or elbow.

Regardless of gender, hearth health is a concern many worry about and sports exercise can be helpful in keeping the heart healthy. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are just as important for women as they are for men as many women are now realizing. Any kind of cardio or aerobic exercise, when done consistently, is beneficial to the heat. This includes running, either outdoors or on a treadmill, aerobics, strenuous dance, cycling and many other activities. you should consult your doctor before you begin exerting if this isn’t something you’ve done in a while.

For those seeking health or weight loss via exercise the lower part of the body is often the biggest challenge at least for women anyway. If your goal is to shed some pounds in the leg, stomach or hip area there are of course many exercises that can help. The best overall approach, however, is to regularly engage in strenuous exercise of some kind, such as circuit training that combines aerobic and anaerobic exercise. You will alternate between regular comfortable paces and spurts of intense training activity to increase both the breathing and heart rate. This will ultimately push your body and increase your metabolism to burn fat. The information above gives us a clear picture of the fact that women’s health and sports medicine covers a wide range of conditions. If you are more aware of the issues you face as a woman prevention of the issues can become seamless in the first place. Don’t become discouraged when something does happen, with good medical care and advice you’ll be on track in no time. When and injury occurs it’s imperative for you to listen to your body and not push yourself too hard since you’ll only make the injury worse if you don’t allow enough time to heal.
