The Herald Sun said detectives carried out eight raids across Victoria and arrested the men. "Detectives are investigating allegations that a number of bets were placed on tennis matches played in both Australia and overseas where the outcome was predetermined by at least one of the players involved," Acting Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said.

Police believe the syndicate was Victorian based, with alleged links to state, national and international tennis matches.

The men will be interviewed in relation to match-fixing contrary to the Crimes Amendment (Integrity in Sports) Act 2013, including the use of corrupt conduct information for betting purposes, police said.

NANNING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was sentenced to death on Monday for shooting and killing a pregnant woman and injuring her husband at a restaurant in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Guigang Intermediate People's Court sentenced policeman Hu Ping to death for intentional homicide and ordered him to pay compensation of 73,324 yuan (12,091 U.S. dollars) to the victim's family.

An investigation by the local public security bureau showed Hu was drunk when he shot the couple, who ran a rice noodle restaurant, on Oct. 28, 2013. The husband sustained minor injuries to his right shoulder, but the wife and her unborn child died.
