MADRID， Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Spain's Banco Santander reported 4.61 billion euros (5.04 billion U.S. dollars) of attributable profits in the first nine months of the year， the bank reported on Wednesday.
The figure meant a 22.5 percent fall when compared with the same period in 2015. As for the third quarter， the bank earned 1.7 billion euros， which meant a 1 percent rise in comparison with the same period of last year.
Excluding the impact of currency depreciation against the euro， attributable profits were 7 percent higher in the third quarter when compared with the third quarter in 2015， according to the bank.

BEIJING， Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China has lodged representations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) over the use of force by its coast guard against Chinese fishermen.
"The Chinese fishermen's illegal operations should not be grounds for the ROK coast guard to open fire，" said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying at a routine press briefing Friday.
On Tuesday， the ROK fired a machine gun to stop two Chinese vessels， prompting about 30 other Chinese boats in the same group to swarm around and ram the coast guard vessel， according to media reports.
"China resolutely opposes any radical measure taken by the ROK that may threaten Chinese fishermen's lives，" Hua said.
An official in charge of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has lodged representations with the minister of the ROK embassy in Beijing over the matter.
The long-standing fishing issue between the two countries cannot be solved overnight， Hua said.
China has made great efforts to strengthen management and discipline of its fishermen， she said， noting that the number of illegal fishing boats had decreased significantly from last year.

Despite a drop in the overall FDI, foreign investment in the mainland's service sector, especially high-tech and modern service industries, continued steady growth.
In the first five months, the high-tech service sector attracted 48.64 billion yuan of foreign capital, up 20.5 percent year on year, according to the ministry.
Meanwhile, for the manufacturing sector, FDI into communication equipment manufacturing jumped 46.6 percent in the five-month period.
Investment from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the European Union grew 12.7 percent, 41.8 percent and 6.2 percent in the January-May period, respectively.
The MOC said a number of policies will soon be introduced to further open up the market and improve the investment environment, including a revised guidance catalogue for foreign investment to relax restrictions on foreign ownership in more industries such as new energy vehicle batteries.
