NRL players who suffer devastating injuries, such as those which have confined Newcastle forward Alex McKinnon to a wheelchair, will be eligible for payouts of up to 1 million AU dollars under the proposed temporary insurance scheme, double the current amount of 500,000 dollars.
The planned policy has been unanimously supported by the league and all 16 clubs.
The NRL's player insurance policy has come under scrutiny since it was revealed that McKinnon Brendan Leipsic Youth Jersey , who damaged vertebrae in his neck after a lifting tackle against Melbourne in March, would receive a relatively small payment when compared to rival football codes in Australia.

It will cover the top 25 contracted NRL players in each club, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
The interim scheme is currently under consideration by the Rugby League Players' Association, and will operate through to March next year while a new whole-of-game policy is developed.
"Everyone in the game has been working together for some months to develop an insurance scheme which looks after the welfare of our players," Smith said on Thursday.
"Obviously players will always be able to take their own insurance to protect their income in the event of a serious injury.

Smith said the league was also planning to set up a foundation to assist players who suffer catastrophic injuries.
The NRL declared the most recent round of matches was to be named the Rise For Alex round, an initiative which raised McKinnon 1.1 million dollars.
As part of the round, the wheelchair-bound 22-year-old returned to Hunter Stadium in Newcastle for the first time since his injury and led the Knights and Gold Coast Titans on to the field before the start of the game.
"It's great to be back in Newcastle. I hope it helps the recovery," he said. "Everyone's support does hit home for me.
"I'm happy to be back in Newcastle, happy to be back in the stadium ... I suppose four months ago you go away to a game in round three and you wouldn't come back for four months."
